Who we are
renttrader.ca is operated by Ytronic Corp, Calgary, Alberta. Questions about privacy can be sent through the contact form or to [email protected], and a member of our team responsible for privacy will reply.
What the contact form collects
- Your name and email address.
- Whether you're a renter, landlord, property manager or other, and the area you choose (optional).
- Your message, and your consent to us replying.
- The page you sent it from, your country (from our host's network data), your browser's user-agent string and a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address, which we use only to limit abuse. We don't store your IP address itself.
Other information
- If you email {HELLO}, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
- If a property-management firm asks to be listed, we collect its business details, a business contact and its RECA licence number.
- Our host, Cloudflare, processes basic technical data (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver the site and protect it from attacks and spam. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-focused check that tells people and bots apart.
- We don't use advertising cookies or ad tracking, and we don't run analytics that identify you.
Why we collect it
- To read and reply to your message.
- To set up and manage directory listings that firms ask for, including confirming their RECA licence.
- To keep the site and the form secure and free of spam.
We collect only what we need for these purposes, and we use it only for them unless you agree otherwise or the law requires it.
Consent
The contact form has a consent checkbox. By ticking it, you agree to us using your details to reply to your message as described here. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us, subject to legal limits; we'll then delete your message unless the law requires us to keep it.
Sharing
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it with property managers, landlords, advertisers or anyone else. We don't pass contact-form messages to directory listees. Messages are delivered to us by email. We use service providers that process information on our behalf: Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site, runs the form and stores messages, and our email provider delivers them to our inbox. These providers may store information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that country.
We will only email you to reply to your message unless you separately agree to receive other messages. Any marketing email will follow Canada's anti-spam law (CASL), identify us and include an unsubscribe option.
How long we keep it
Contact-form messages are stored for 12 months and then deleted automatically. Spam-check records (reason codes and hashed IP addresses, no names or messages) are deleted after 30 days. Copies of a message in our email inbox are kept only as long as we need them to deal with your request. Information about listed firms is kept while the listing is active and for up to 12 months after it ends.
Security
We use reasonable security safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access limited to the people who need it, and spam and abuse protection.
Your rights
You can ask to see or correct the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, through the contact form or by emailing [email protected]. We'll respond within the time PIPA allows. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta. More about the law: Personal Information Protection Act.
